Pokémon TCG Pocket Unveils Trading Feature and Space-Time Smackdown

by Dylan Jun 25,2025

Pokémon TCG Pocket has officially introduced one of its most anticipated features—card trading—just in time to kick off the new season. Alongside this, players can dive into a fresh expansion titled Space-Time Smackdown, bringing iconic Pokémon and exciting gameplay elements to the mix.

Trading Now Live – How It Works

The newly launched trading system allows players to exchange cards with friends in a manner similar to real-world Pokémon card trades. While it’s a significant update, there are some limitations:

  • Only cards rated from 1–4 stars and 1-star special cards are tradeable.
  • Players must use in-game resources such as trade hourglasses and trade tokens to facilitate trades.

While the mechanics are functional, many fans feel the restrictions dampen the experience. Some argue that either a more open trading system or no trading at all would have been better than a feature riddled with caveats.

Space-Time Smackdown Expansion

In addition to trading, the Space-Time Smackdown expansion is now live, offering players access to legendary powerhouses like Dialga and Palkia, along with the beloved Sinnoh starters: Turtwig, Chimchar, and Piplup. This expansion brings a wave of new cards, abilities, and strategies, making it a solid addition for both newcomers and veterans alike.

Despite the excitement surrounding the expansion, the trading feature itself has faced a somewhat frosty reception. Many players hoped for a more flexible and intuitive system, free from resource costs and rarity restrictions. However, there's optimism that the development team will continue refining the feature based on player feedback.
