The excitement for a white Steam Deck began in 2021 when Valve teased a prototype during the Steam Deck presentation. At the time, fans could only dream of owning the white version, as it was not available for sale. Valve's Greg Coomer noted, "This is a prototype only. We love it too, but we’re not able to bring it to market at the same time we’re shipping the Steam Deck," adding that they were considering other color options for the future. Now, those dreams have become a reality with the release of the Steam Deck OLED: Limited Edition White.
