To achieve the best ending in *Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2*, completing certain tasks is essential, one of which is saving Sam. Knowing where to find Sam is crucial if you're aiming for perfection in your gameplay experience.
Rescuing Sam During “Reckoning”
As you near the end of the main quest line, you discover that Sam is being held captive at Praguer’s Camp, having been captured by Brabant. Your opportunity to save him arises during the main quest “Reckoning.” However, entering the camp to free him isn't straightforward. You can choose to infiltrate stealthily or opt for a more direct, violent approach.
To move around the camp without arousing suspicion, you'll need a guard's outfit. You can obtain this by either killing a guard and stealing his attire, ensuring to hide the body afterward, or by looting one of the many chests scattered throughout the camp. Once you have the outfit equipped, you can freely explore the camp in search of Sam.
When to Rescue Sam
After freeing Sam, it's not yet time to escort him out of the camp. He informs you about von Aulitz, who is also present in the camp. It's advisable to deal with von Aulitz first, then secure a horse, and finally return to Sam to safely extract him from the camp. Sam can wait safely, and this sequence makes the tasks more manageable, especially since you'll need to carry him to the horse.
Von Aulitz can be found in the main part of the camp. Wearing the guard outfit allows you to enter his quarters without issue. Upon finding him, you'll see that von Aulitz is already dying. He requests a dignified death, which is the most honorable option. Alternatively, you can choose to kill him brutally or leave him to die slowly. Interestingly, leaving him to die actually contributes to the best ending.
Your final steps involve retrieving Sam from the barn where you left him. If questioned by a guard about moving Sam, simply state that you're handling a body, which will dispel any suspicion. Proceed to the camp gates, exit, and turn right to follow the perimeter.
