The upcoming Monopoly movie from Lionsgate has tapped John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein as its writers. These two have previously worked together on the successful film Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, showcasing their knack for bringing board games to life on the big screen.

Today's announcement confirms that Daley and Goldstein will pen the screenplay for this much-anticipated adaptation of Hasbro's iconic board game. Adding to the excitement, Margot Robbie is on board as a producer through her company, LuckyChap, bringing her star power and creative vision to the project.

In addition to Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, Daley and Goldstein have recently written and directed their original film Mayday. Their writing credits also include blockbuster hits like The Flash and Spider-Man: Homecoming, demonstrating their versatility and ability to handle diverse genres.

The journey to bring Monopoly to the silver screen has been long and winding. Discussions about a Monopoly movie date back to 2007 when Ridley Scott expressed interest in directing. In 2011, Scott enlisted Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski to write the script, but that project never came to fruition. Then, in 2015, Lionsgate and Hasbro collaborated on another attempt with Andrew Niccol as the writer, followed by reports in 2019 that actor Kevin Hart and director Tim Story were set to be involved.

However, none of these earlier efforts seem to have panned out. The recent acquisition of eOne by Lionsgate from Hasbro has reignited the project, giving fans hope that this version of the Monopoly film will finally pass Go and make it to theaters.
