Fallout 76 Season 20: Embrace Your Inner Ghoul
Fallout 76 Season 20, titled "The Ghoul Within," has arrived, offering players the thrilling opportunity to transform into a Ghoul in the post-apocalyptic world of Appalachia. This update, announced by Bethesda on March 18, introduces a host of ghoul-centric features, mechanics, and cosmetics that allow players to revamp their C.A.M.P. and immerse themselves deeper into the game's lore.
Unleash the Ghoul Within
The journey to becoming a Ghoul begins with the "Leap of Faith" questline, leading players to a previously unexplored area of the Savage Divide. Here, they'll encounter new characters who aid in their transformation through Ghoulification. As a Ghoul, players unlock exclusive abilities such as Glow and Feral, alongside 30 new Ghoul-exclusive Perks, or "Gherks."
The Feral ability replaces traditional hunger and thirst mechanics with a Feral meter. Depending on its level, players receive various boosts. However, letting it hit 0% drastically alters gameplay, boosting Melee Damage by 150% while severely impacting Endurance, Charisma, Max HP, Max AP, and accuracy.
The Glow ability allows players to consume radiation, granting immunity to diseases and mutations, and causing them to emit a glow. This not only increases maximum health and heals damage but also enhances the effectiveness of Ghoul-exclusive Perks.
Players can choose from 28 new Perks and two legendary Perks designed specifically for Ghouls. Note that Ghouls will not benefit from Hunger, Thirst, or Chem Resistant Perks, as these are irrelevant to their new condition.
A Day In The Life of A Ghoul
Navigating the radiation-filled wasteland as a Ghoul is made easier with the new abilities and Perks. However, this transformation comes with its challenges; factions like the Brotherhood of Steel may become hostile, potentially blocking certain questlines. Fortunately, a new NPC named Jaye offers disguises that allow Ghouls to access content otherwise barred to them.
If the Ghoul lifestyle doesn't suit you, players can revert to human form via the Character Screen. This change is permanent, but the option to purchase Ghoul Retransformation for 1000 Atoms is available if you wish to return to your Ghoul state.
Level 50 Character Boost and Season 20 Patch Notes
New and veteran players alike can now expedite their journey through Appalachia with the Level 50 Character Boost, available for 1500 Atoms. This boost provides immediate access to multiplayer features like Daily Ops, Public Events, and some story content, enhancing the overall gaming experience.
Alongside the Ghoul transformation, Season 20 brings a range of patch updates, including bug fixes, combat balancing, weapon damage adjustments, and accessibility improvements. Bethesda has also teased the upcoming update, "The Big Bloom," scheduled for April 29, as part of their ongoing season calendar.
Since its launch in November 2018, Fallout 76 has evolved significantly, overcoming initial hurdles to now boast a "Mostly Positive" rating on Steam, with 76% of its reviews being favorable. The game is available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC, continuing to attract and retain a dedicated player base.
