EA Bucks Gaming Price Hike Trend

by Ethan Nov 26,2025

Publishing and development company EA has confirmed it has no plans to increase game prices, even as competitors like Microsoft and Nintendo move to $80.

During the latest earnings call with investors, CEO Andrew Wilson stated the company's priority is to "deliver exceptional quality and outstanding value for our players," pointing to the successful co-op adventure Split Fiction, which has now sold 4 million copies.

"When it comes to pricing, our business model today is very different from what it was even ten years ago," Wilson explained. "While we still sell physical copies, that now represents only a small part of our operations. Our pricing today spans everything from free-to-play titles to premium deluxe editions and more."

"Ultimately, whether we offer something for a dollar, ten dollars, or a hundred dollars, our goal remains the same: to deliver outstanding quality and tremendous value for our players," Wilson continued. "And over time, we've learned that when we combine quality with value, our business becomes stronger, more resilient, and continues to expand."

"From a strategic perspective, we currently have no plans to adjust our pricing strategy," added CFO Stuart Canfield.

This news will be welcomed by many, especially after Microsoft recently announced price increases for Xbox consoles, along with higher prices for controllers, headsets, and select games. The new pricing for consoles and accessories is already in effect, and while game prices haven't changed yet, Microsoft is expected to charge $79.99 for upcoming first-party Xbox titles during the holiday season.

This reflects a broader trend in AAA gaming, where standard prices have shifted from $60 to $70 over the past five years, with Nintendo pricing upcoming Switch 2 exclusive Mario Kart World and other Switch 2 Edition titles at $80. The Switch 2 itself was recently announced with a $450 launch price, a figure that drew criticism from Nintendo fans, even as industry analysts acknowledged such pricing was unavoidable given current economic conditions.

Given EA's position, the next releases of EA Sports FC, Madden, and Battlefield are expected to maintain the $70 standard edition price.

Last week, IGN reported that EA eliminated approximately 100 positions at Apex Legends developer Respawn Entertainment, as part of broader organizational restructuring affecting around 300 employees in total.
