Dragon Age: Veilguard Surprise: Free Weapon DLC Released After Update Drought

by Henry Apr 13,2025

BioWare has nearly shifted its focus away from Dragon Age: The Veilguard, but the dedicated team still working on the game has managed to surprise fans with a small, yet exciting, DLC weapons pack. This unexpected addition has caused a stir among the Dragon Age community.

The excitement began when the RPG's Steam page was updated to include the Rook’s Weapons Appearance Offer, a free add-on content package. This move came as a surprise, especially after EA had hinted that Dragon Age: The Veilguard would not see much additional support. The game's fifth patch in January had already suggested that future updates would primarily address game-breaking bugs, making this new content feel like a small miracle.

Interestingly, the Rook’s Weapons Appearances bundle is exclusively available to current owners of the game and those who purchase it on PC before the deadline of April 8, 2025. The specifics of what the bundle includes are not detailed on the page, but players have discovered that it provides access to a set of Watchful skins, which can be used in the Rook’s in-game room. Whether this offer will extend to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X | S versions remains uncertain.

“Even if these appearances aren't the most, uh, beautiful things ever,” one Steam review says, “they do give spooky eldritch horror vibes!”

"It's cosmetic DLC, but it's essentially free DLC for a game that's practically no longer getting newer content," one Redditor commented. "I'll live with that."

Dragon Age: The Veilguard received positive reviews from critics upon its launch in October. However, according to EA, it did not capture a wide enough audience. In late January, key team members announced their departure from BioWare, with many staff members either being laid off or reassigned to other projects within the company. EA informed IGN that the studio was now fully focused on the next installment of the Mass Effect series.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard was included in the PlayStation Plus March 2025 titles, just four months after its release. No further plans for the game's future have been disclosed.
