Cyberpunk 2077 Lunar DLC: Space Expansion Details Unveiled

Cyberpunk 2077 enthusiasts might be intrigued to learn about a grand, yet ultimately abandoned, DLC that was planned to take players to space—specifically, the Moon. Thanks to the diligent work of blogger and dataminer SirMZK, who delved into the game's code, we now have a glimpse into CD Projekt RED's ambitious vision for this cosmic expansion.

Within the game's files, SirMZK uncovered references to lunar surface maps, detailed areas such as an Exterior Movie Set and a Drug Lab, and even a model for a rover. This Moon location was envisioned to be vast, possibly spanning a quarter of Night City's size, and designed as an open-world environment. This expansion would have offered a fresh layer to the gameplay, transporting players from the familiar neon-lit streets to the expansive lunar landscape.

A standout feature of this proposed DLC was the Crystal Palace, an elite space station. Although it didn't make it into the final release, fans can spot the Crystal Palace in one of the game's endings, where V peers out of a spaceship window. Additionally, the files hint at a zero-gravity bar associated with a scrapped quest known as "201," which would have been connected to the Arasaka narrative.

There's a glimmer of hope among fans that these concepts might find new life in CD Projekt RED's next endeavor, Orion, which aims to further explore the Cyberpunk universe. However, the studio has yet to confirm whether these ideas will be revisited.

Though the Moon DLC remains a distant dream for now, the unearthed details offer a captivating look at what might have been—a daring leap for Cyberpunk 2077 into unexplored realms, seamlessly integrating space exploration with the game's iconic cyberpunk flair.
