Best Class Choices in Citizen Sleeper 2 Revealed

by Christopher Mar 28,2025

At the start of *Citizen Sleeper 2*, you'll be presented with the option to choose one of three different classes: Operator, Machinist, and Extractor. Here's a detailed look at each class to help you decide which one aligns best with your play style and role-playing preferences.

Which Citizen Sleeper 2 Class Should You Choose?

The best class for you in *Citizen Sleeper 2* depends on your preferred play style. After completing the game, here's my take on the three classes, examining their abilities and role-playing potential.

Operator

The Operator class starts with a + in Interface, base levels in Intuit and Engage, and no points in Engineer. They cannot level up Endure. Their unique ability allows them to accrue Stress in exchange for re-rolling their lowest dice.

While I appreciate the Operator class, it's not my top pick among the three. As you progress and upgrade your abilities, you become significantly more powerful. However, the early game can be challenging. Interface is a valuable skill, and if you can navigate the initial difficulties, the Operator is a solid choice. The re-rolling ability, though, can sometimes result in another low roll, which isn't ideal.

From a role-playing perspective, the Operator is versatile, allowing you to embody a wide range of characters.

Machinist

The Machinist class begins with a + in Engineer, base levels in Interface and Intuit, and no points in Endure. They cannot level up Engage. Their ability lets them gain Stress in exchange for adding +2 to their lowest dice, and they lose 2 Stress on a Positive outcome. As you progress in *Citizen Sleeper 2*, you can further enhance your dice and reduce Stress.

I chose the Machinist for my first playthrough, and it quickly became my favorite class. The ability to boost dice and manage Stress effectively is invaluable, especially given the frequent Engineer and Interface checks. Starting with a Stress-reducing ability is a significant advantage, as managing Stress is one of the game's more challenging aspects.

From a role-playing standpoint, the Machinist is ideal for players interested in the technical and mechanical aspects of the game world.

Extractor

The Extractor starts with a + in Endure, base levels in Engineer and Engage, and no points in Interface. They cannot level up Intuit. Their ability allows them to gain Stress in exchange for adding +2 to the lowest dice of their crew. As the game progresses, they can upgrade this ability to further enhance their crew's performance.

I find the Extractor's ability quite useful, especially for managing crew during Contracts. Starting with a bonus to Endure is beneficial, given the numerous Endure checks in the game. However, I found myself with a surplus of crew members skilled in Endure and Engage as the game went on.

From a role-playing perspective, the Extractor suits players who enjoy a more rugged, combat-focused character.

And that's our guide to choosing the best class in *Citizen Sleeper 2*. Each class offers unique advantages and role-playing opportunities, so consider your preferred play style and dive into the world of *Citizen Sleeper 2* with confidence.
