The open-world vampire RPG, The Blood of Dawnwalker, developed by former CD Projekt Red (CDPR) developers at Rebel Wolves, is aiming to deliver a level of quality comparable to The Witcher 3, but in a more compact package. Dive deeper into the details of this highly anticipated game and hear directly from its creative director.
The Blood Of Dawnwalker Aims For AAA Quality
In an interview with Games Radar, Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz, the creative director of The Blood of Dawnwalker, discussed the ambitious goals set by his team. Despite being a smaller studio releasing their debut game, the team at Rebel Wolves is targeting the high-quality standards set by CDPR's The Witcher 3.
When questioned about the game's positioning between indie and AAA categories, Tomaszkiewicz clarified, "In terms of quality, we definitely look at AAA, because this is where we are coming from, the quality level of The Witcher 3." This statement underscores the team's commitment to excellence, despite the smaller scope of their project.
The team at Rebel Wolves comprises seasoned professionals who previously worked on The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077 at CDPR. Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz, along with his brother Konrad, founded Rebel Wolves to pursue greater creative freedom in game development, free from the constraints often encountered at larger studios.
Tomaszkiewicz elaborated on the game's scope, saying, "Definitely, our games are not as huge in terms of amount of content and gameplay hours - we are a smaller studio, this is our first project, so we definitely are building something smaller. But we want to build something as robust in terms of quality, maybe a bit shorter." He highlighted that The Blood of Dawnwalker is aiming for a main campaign lasting 30-40 hours, which, while shorter than typical AAA titles, does not compromise on quality. "If size is your measure, then yes it's not the size of a AAA like The Witcher. But I don't know if size is the measure, to be honest, because there are AAA games like Call of Duty that aren't 100+ hours gameplay campaigns. And I don't know if anyone would call them AA, or indie."
The Blood of Dawnwalker is set in the mystical land of Vale Sangora and follows the journey of Coen, a young peasant who gains vampiric powers and sets out to save his sister from a fatal illness. As players navigate this dark fantasy world, they'll encounter various challenges and hostilities.
While a specific release date has not yet been announced, the game is expected to launch on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Fans can look forward to a gameplay reveal in Summer 2025.
