Ahead of Amazon Prime Day, Amazon has slashed the price of one of the top Windows gaming handhelds to its lowest ever. You can now grab the Lenovo Legion Go, equipped with an AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme APU and 512GB of storage, for just $499.99 after a 30% instant discount. The Legion Go features a larger, higher-resolution screen, detachable controllers, and a bigger battery than the Asus ROG Ally. Plus, with Valve releasing SteamOS to the public, you can install it and effectively transform this device into a supercharged Steam Deck.

The Lenovo Legion Go is a Windows gaming handheld driven by an AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme APU with Radeon graphics and 16GB of RAM—the same setup found in the $700 Asus ROG Ally Z1 Extreme and ROG Ally X. It also sports a larger, sharper 8.8-inch 2560x1600 144Hz IPS touchscreen and detachable controllers reminiscent of the Nintendo Switch. Running Windows 11, the Legion Go is compatible with most PC gaming platforms, including Steam, Origin, Ubisoft Connect, Epic Games Store, Genshin Impact, Battle.net, and others.

In her review of the Lenovo Legion Go, Jacqueline Thomas noted that "it easily stands as the best handheld gaming PC available today in terms of screen size, performance, and USB-C port placement—though there are a few drawbacks. It's undeniably huge, and the 1600p display demands more than even this powerful chip can consistently deliver. That means you'll need to spend time adjusting—and often lowering—graphic settings to get games running smoothly. Battery life isn't great either, and you're paying more than for a Steam Deck OLED to get the larger display, a full Windows 11 license, and extra power. But if you love the Nintendo Switch concept—removable controllers, a sturdy built-in kickstand, and the ability to prop it up and play—this is the device for you."

Since that review was published, the Asus ROG Ally X has entered the market, competing with the Legion Go for the title of best gaming handheld. However, the Ally X is significantly more expensive, currently priced at $899.99 at Best Buy—$400 more than the Legion Go. That makes the Legion Go a much better value for your money.

If you take advantage of this deal, we recommend pairing it with a portable power bank for longer trips and a microSD card for extra storage. While we’ve compared the Steam Deck and the ROG Ally in the past—and the Legion Go wasn't included—that article still offers useful insight into the key differences between SteamOS and Windows-based handhelds.
