Atelier Yumia: Guide to Memory Alchemy and Land Synthesis

by Alexander Apr 20,2025

One of the most intricate mechanics in *Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land* is the Synthesis system, which is integral to nearly every aspect of the game. From the resources you gather to the weapons you forge, mastering Synthesis is crucial for success. Here’s a comprehensive guide on how to leverage it effectively.

Synthesis Types in Atelier Yumia

In *Atelier Yumia*, there are three distinct types of Synthesis:

  • Regular Synthesis: Conducted at an Alchemist’s altar, this is used for crafting weapons, armor, battle accessories, magical items, and necessary materials. You unlock the Atelier early in the game, allowing you to return and perform Synthesis at any time. In areas where you can build, such as cleared manabound zones or campsites, you can construct a Simple Altar to enable regular Synthesis.
  • Simple Synthesis: Accessible outside of battle via the radial menu, this allows you to craft essential items like bandages, zipline gauntlets, and repair kits for treasure chests, ladders, and more, provided you have the necessary resources.
  • Building Synthesis: Available through the radial menu on specific plots of land, this form of Synthesis is used to create storage chests and wall hangings, though it's not explicitly labeled as such in the game. The story often refers to this process as Synthesis, so keep that in mind.

How to Synthesize Equipment in Atelier Yumia

Synthesis in Atelier Yumia.

Regular Synthesis at altars is the most complex form of Synthesis in *Atelier Yumia*. To craft items like a gun staff for Yumia, you first need to discover the recipe while exploring the world. You can also enhance existing recipes at a Recipe Recall Station using particles from mana fountains. Here’s how you proceed at an Alchemist’s altar:

  1. Choose the type of gun staff you want to create.
  2. Select Synthesis Skills if they are unlocked in your skill tree. Early unlocking of these skills is crucial as they boost item damage and quality, and allow item duplication to conserve resources.
  3. Select the initial Alchemy Core to work with. There are three types:
    • Effects Alchemy Core: Enhances the selected skills.
    • Quality Alchemy Core: Increases the quality level of the finished item.
    • Trait Alchemy Core: Increases the number of Trait Crystal slots available for the item.
  4. Fill the slots of each Alchemy Core with your collected resources.
  5. Collect mana fragments to further boost the item's quality.
  6. Once everything is set, Synthesize the item.

To maximize the quality of your items, you can add resources to all three Alchemy Cores by using the left or right bumper while filling slots. Collecting the yellow mana fragments around each core significantly enhances item strength, which is advisable unless you’re crafting a quest-specific item.

Don't overlook the importance of matching resources to the element type of specific slots, indicated by a blue outline. Organizing your resources in the submenu to prioritize higher-quality ones can also be beneficial, though sometimes prioritizing effects might be more advantageous.

If the complexity of Synthesis feels overwhelming, you can opt for the auto-Synthesis feature after selecting your Synthesis Skills. The game efficiently crafts the best possible item, enabling you to tackle even the final boss on Normal difficulty with relative ease.

With this guide, you should now be well-equipped to master the Synthesis mechanic in *Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land*, which is available now.
