Tides Of Annihilation Trailer Showcases Fast-Paced Combat
A Sneak Peek Into An Apocalyptic London
First unveiled at the recent PlayStation State of Play, the hack-and-slash action-adventure game Tides of Annihilation has sparked even more interest with its newly revealed extended gameplay trailer. This footage features protagonist Gwendolyn and her sword-transforming companion, Niniane, navigating the ruins of a desolate, otherworldly London ravaged by an Outworld invasion. As they journey through the crumbling streets, various enemies attempt to thwart their progress. A pivotal moment in the trailer reveals Gwendolyn's unique ability to summon a band of over ten legendary knights inspired by King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table.
After clearing out these adversaries and further exploring through a magical portal, the duo engages in an intense boss fight with Mordred, a character with conflicting goals who is determined to stop Gwendolyn. The battle showcases the game’s action-packed combat, underscored by a haunting choir, making for a dramatic conclusion.
According to Kun Fu, the game’s producer, as mentioned on the PlayStation.Blog, the battle system will feature "intuitive co-op combat in a single-player experience." Players can summon two spectral knights at a time, each with distinct combat roles, requiring strategic gameplay based on the current situation. "The interplay between Gwendolyn and the knights creates a dynamic, fast-paced, and deeply engaging combat experience. It’s a system that our team (veterans from top game studios) fell in love with during internal playtests."
A Nod To Devil May Cry And Bayonetta
The community has responded enthusiastically to the trailer, praising its art direction, style, and the fluid, fast-paced hack-and-slash combat. Comparisons have been drawn to classics like Devil May Cry and Bayonetta, with additional nods to Elden Ring, NieR: Automata, Stellar Blade, and Final Fantasy 16. Fans have expressed their excitement and acknowledged the game's "immense potential," with many planning to purchase it upon release.
Tides of Annihilation marks the debut title from Chengdu-based game studio Eclipse Glow Games, blending Arthurian legend with an alternate modern-day London. Players will step into the role of heroine Gwendolyn, a survivor of an apocalyptic event. While no specific release window has been set, the game is slated to launch on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
