Sony's Latest Patents: AI-Powered Prediction and a DualSense Gun Attachment
Sony has filed two intriguing patents, showcasing its commitment to enhancing the gaming experience. These patents focus on an AI-powered camera system and a realistic gun trigger attachment for the DualSense controller.

AI-Driven Lag Reduction:

The "Timed Input/Action Release" patent details a camera system that monitors the player and controller. Utilizing AI (a machine learning model), the system predicts the player's next inputs, potentially mitigating online lag by preemptively processing actions. This predictive capability could significantly improve responsiveness in online games. Alternatively, the system could interpret "incomplete controller actions," inferring player intent from partial inputs.
Enhanced Gunplay with a DualSense Attachment:

A second patent introduces a trigger attachment designed to enhance the realism of in-game gunfights. The attachment allows players to hold the DualSense controller sideways, mimicking a gun's grip. The space between the R1 and R2 buttons serves as the sight, while the trigger replicates the firing action. The patent suggests compatibility with other devices, including the PSVR2 headset.
While Sony holds a vast patent portfolio (78% of its 95,533 patents are active), it's important to note that patent filings don't guarantee product release. Only time will reveal if these innovative concepts will become reality. Previous Sony patents have explored adaptive difficulty, a DualSense controller with integrated earbud charging, and a temperature-sensitive controller for immersive feedback.
