Project Mugen Is Now Called Ananta, Devs Drop New Trailer

NetEase's Upcoming Open-World RPG, Ananta (formerly Project Mugen), Unveils New Trailer

Remember Project Mugen, the urban open-world RPG from Naked Rain and NetEase? It's had a name change! Now known as Ananta, this highly anticipated title, first revealed at Gamescom 2023, finally offers a glimpse of its world via a newly released trailer. More details are promised on December 5th. Until then, enjoy the trailer:

The Meaning Behind the Name Change

While the developers haven't commented on the rebranding, the new name, Ananta, meaning "infinite" in Sanskrit, aligns with the original title, Mugen, which also translates to "infinite" in Japanese. The Chinese title further supports this thematic continuity.

The gaming community is divided on the name change, but the relief that the project is still active outweighs the debate. Comparisons are already being drawn between Ananta and Hotta Studio's upcoming RPG, Neverness to Everness. Ananta's stylish trailer, however, lacks gameplay footage, giving Neverness to Everness a potential advantage for some players. Personally, Ananta's visuals are exceptionally appealing.

A Curious Turn of Events

Interestingly, the development team has deleted all previous social media accounts, including a YouTube channel boasting over 100,000 subscribers and millions of views. Only their Discord server remains, simply renamed rather than repurposed. This unexpected decision has left many gamers puzzled.

In Ananta, players assume the role of an Infinite Trigger, a paranormal investigator combating supernatural chaos. The game features characters such as Taffy, Bansy, Alan, Mechanika, and Dila.
