Larian Studios Focuses on Next Game, Imposes Media Blackout

by Grace Mar 12,2025

Larian Studios, the creators of the critically acclaimed Baldur's Gate 3, have announced a media blackout as they shift their focus entirely to their next, currently unannounced project. While players eagerly await Patch 8 for Baldur's Gate 3 later this year, Larian's CEO, Swen Vincke, confirmed on Twitter that the studio's full attention is now dedicated to this new endeavor. He expressed gratitude for the success of Baldur's Gate 3 but hinted at a desire to avoid a period of creative burnout.

In a subsequent statement to VideoGamer, Larian clarified their commitment to this new title, officially initiating a period of silence regarding their future plans. Details about this new game remain scarce, with confirmation only that it will not be a Baldur's Gate 3 sequel or any other D&D-based project. Instead, Larian is creating a completely original game, a decision made after internal discussions revealed a lack of enthusiasm for a direct Baldur's Gate follow-up.

Previous statements from Vincke offer only vague hints. In November 2023, he teased that the new project would push creative boundaries. Earlier, in July 2023, he mentioned the eventual return to the Divinity: Original Sin universe, but emphasized that it wouldn't be the studio's immediate focus following the launch of Baldur's Gate 3.

The nature of Larian's next game remains a mystery. While their expertise lies in fantasy RPGs, the possibility of exploring science fiction, modern settings, or even entirely new genres is open. Given the current media blackout, it seems likely that significant time—potentially years—will pass before any concrete details are revealed.
