This guide details how to use the Volcano Forge in Stardew Valley 1.6, including forging weapons, enchanting tools, and obtaining necessary materials.
Obtaining Cinder Shards:
Cinder Shards are crucial for all Volcano Forge functions. Acquire them by:
- Mining Cinder Shard nodes (pink-orange specks) in the Volcano Dungeon.
- Receiving them as drops from Magma Sprites (50%), Magma Duggies (40%), Magma Sparkers (50%), and False Magma Caps (50%).
- Harvesting from a fishing pond with 7+ Stingrays (7-9% daily chance, yielding 2-5 shards).
Cinder Shards cannot be created in a Crystalarium.
The Mini-Forge:
After achieving Combat Mastery, craft a Mini-Forge, a portable version of the Volcano Forge. Requires: 5 Dragon Teeth, 10 Iron Bars, 10 Gold Bars, 5 Iridium Bars.
Weapon Forging:
Enhance weapons (up to three times) using gemstones and Cinder Shards:
- First Forge: 10 Shards + Gemstone
- Second Forge: 15 Shards + Gemstone
- Third Forge: 20 Shards + Gemstone
Gemstone effects:
- Amethyst: +1 Knockback per forge.
- Aquamarine: +4.6% Crit Chance per forge.
- Emerald: +2/+3/+2 Speed per forge (total +7).
- Jade: +10% Crit Damage per forge.
- Ruby: +10% Damage per forge.
- Topaz: +1 Defense per forge.
- Diamond: 10 Shards for 3 random upgrades.
Unforging: Place the weapon in the left slot and select the red X to remove all forging (recovers some shards, not gemstones).
Infinity Weapons:
Upgrade Galaxy Sword, Dagger, or Hammer into Infinity versions using 3 Galaxy Souls (20 Shards each).
Galaxy Souls: Obtain from Mr. Qi (40 Qi Gems), Big Slimes (Dangerous Mines, Qi quests), Island Trader (10 Radioactive Bars, last day of season), or as rare drops from Dangerous Monsters (after killing 50).
Enchantments:
Add special effects to tools/weapons using a Prismatic Shard and 20 Cinder Shards. Effects are random.
Weapon Enchantments: Artful, Bug Killer, Crusader, Vampiric, Haymaker.
Innate Enchantments: Use a Dragon Tooth for additional enchantments: Slime Slayer, Crit Power, Attack, Speed, Slime Gatherer, Defense, Weight.
Tool Enchantments: (Random, tool-specific): Auto-Hook, Archeologist, Bottomless, Efficient, Fisher, Generous, Master, Powerful, Preserving, Reaching, Shaving, Swift.
Best Upgrade Choices: Prioritize Emerald/Ruby for damage/speed, or Topaz/Amethyst for survivability. Tool enchantments depend on playstyle; Bottomless (Watering Can) and Preserving (Fishing Rod) are generally highly valued.
