Should You Fight Lu Bu in Dynasty Warriors: Origins?
Facing Lu Bu is a daunting challenge. In my experience with Dynasty Warriors: Origins, it took over an hour to emerge victorious. However, there are compelling reasons to take on this formidable opponent.
Firstly, defeating Lu Bu earns you bragging rights—a true badge of honor. Secondly, depending on your allegiance with Shu or Wei, you may have no choice but to fight him during the Battle of Xiapi in Chapter 4. Finally, triumphing over Lu Bu at the Battle of Hulao Gate not only grants you the prestigious trophy, "The Strongest," but also unlocks the game's ultimate weapon, the halberd, in the post-game. These incentives make battling Lu Bu an enticing prospect.
Lu Bu’s First Phase
Before engaging Lu Bu, ensure you're equipped with gear capable of handling his might. A sword that can deliver multiple hits and stagger him is essential, alongside Battle Arts that are quick to activate, don't require much Bravery, and have a wide range. In my battle, I utilized Falcon Flurry, Mad Blade Rush, Absconding Slash, and Flying Dragon Slash. Accessories like Divine Bird’s Wing and Divine Turtle’s Shell to boost health and defense are crucial, given Lu Bu's devastating attacks. Additionally, a weapon skill that grants Bravery for each Perfect Evade is vital, as evading effectively will be your primary way to gain Bravery during this fight.
In most encounters, Lu Bu begins mounted on Red Hare. During this phase, he charges around the area, occasionally pausing to rest. Seize these moments to strike with your Battle Arts before retreating. His attacks have limited AOE, except for Red Hare's aerial crash, making dodging manageable. Once his health drops to 80%, Lu Bu dismounts, signaling the start of the true battle.
Lu Bu’s Second Phase
On foot, Lu Bu is a relentless force. His swift attacks and rapid movement across the battlefield are challenging, especially when he's enveloped in a red aura, rendering him immune to staggering. Be prepared for his triple charge sequences; if he charges without his spear, he's attempting a grab that can severely deplete your health—evade these moves diligently.
His most lethal attack occurs when he glows orange, launching three massive arrows at you in quick succession. This can juggle and obliterate your health, making a long-range Battle Art like Absconding Slash essential for canceling it from a distance. Close-quarters Battle Arts like Palm Strike are too risky here. Keep your Musou gauge charged for emergencies, providing temporary invincibility that could be a lifesaver.
Despite his ferocity, Lu Bu can be juggled during this phase. Continuous hits can quickly charge your Battle Arts and deplete his Fortitude meter. Stay close to react swiftly to his moves, and remember: evasion is key.
Lu Bu’s Final Phase
When Lu Bu enters Musou Rage, the final phase begins. He becomes unstaggered and unleashes a relentless barrage of attacks. Your objective is to break his Fortitude before he executes his Musou Attack. Use everything at your disposal—activate Musou attacks when he's near, deploy Battle Arts, and strike with speed and precision. If he completes his Musou Attack, he'll immediately reactivate it, forcing you to restart the phase. Successfully breaking his Fortitude here will allow you to defeat this legendary warrior.
And that's how to conquer Lu Bu in Dynasty Warriors: Origins! The game is now available on PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S.
