PowerBlock presents a strong alternative to Bowflex in the adjustable dumbbell market, offering a trusted brand at a significantly more affordable price. For a limited time, Woot! (an Amazon company) has reduced the PowerBlock EXP Stage 1 set (5-50 lbs) to just $239.99, making it $149 less than a comparable Bowflex SelectTech set. If you require over 50 pounds per dumbbell, PowerBlock sells expansion kits to increase the maximum weight to 70 or 90 pounds. Both the Stage 2 (50-70 lbs) and Stage 3 (70-90 lbs) kits are also on sale at Woot! for $119.99 each. Amazon Prime members receive free shipping, while others pay a flat $6 rate—a reasonable fee given the package weighs over 100 pounds.

The base PowerBlock EXP Stage 1 set allows each dumbbell to be adjusted from 10 to 50 pounds. Changing the weight is simple, requiring only a turn of a dial in 5-pound increments. The compact design houses all the plates neatly, saving significant floor space compared to a full dumbbell rack. A stand is sold separately; one is currently on sale, but any sturdy stand or table will work if you're watching your budget.
A key advantage of PowerBlock dumbbells is their expandability. When you're ready to progress beyond 50 pounds, you can simply purchase an expansion kit instead of a completely new set. These kits let you increase the weight of your existing PowerBlocks up to 90 pounds, offering excellent value.
The build quality of PowerBlock dumbbells is exceptional. Having tested them personally, I can confirm they are just as solid and reliable as Bowflex SelectTech. Critical components are constructed from metal, not plastic. The rubber-coated handles provide a secure, non-slip grip, and the weight adjustment dial operates smoothly and intuitively. PowerBlock supports its products with a five-year warranty. If you're still committed to your fitness routine after five years, that's an impressive achievement.
Free weights are an ideal solution for home workouts with limited space. A single pair of dumbbells enables a vast range of exercises targeting nearly all major muscle groups in your upper and lower body. Combine dumbbell training with cardio and bodyweight exercises like push-ups, burpees, and squats, and you may find you need no other equipment.
