However, at only 250-nit peak brightness in SDR, it may appear dim in brightly lit rooms.

The color performance is outstanding, covering 99.3% of the DCI-P3 color spectrum, and sRGB performance was excellent in our tests. The unit came well-calibrated, delivering stunning, true-to-life colors right out of the box. This makes the Alienware AW3423DW not only ideal for gaming but also a viable option for creatives.

The 34-inch display has a unique resolution of 3,440 x 1,440, which falls between 1440p and 4K, offering sharp details and solid picture quality. The 1800R curvature enhances immersion without distortion.

The Alienware AW3423DW boasts a speedy 175Hz refresh rate, perfect for those with the GPU power to push this display. Even if you can't maintain 175 fps, the monitor supports G-Sync Ultimate to eliminate screen tearing. The 0.1 ms GtG response time is also exceptionally fast, making it ideal for competitive esports players.

The biggest disappointment is its I/O panel. While it offers plenty of ports, including multiple USBs, HDMIs, and a DisplayPort, it only supports HDMI 2.0, limiting console gaming to 60Hz instead of the 120Hz that current-gen consoles can achieve. Nonetheless, it remains a great Alienware gaming monitor worth considering.

The OLED panel sets this monitor apart, with colors that seem to leap off the screen. While its peak brightness doesn't match larger gaming monitors, its infinite contrast delivers excellent dynamic range. For gaming, you'll need to settle for 60Hz, but the picture quality compensates for this.

The built-in proximity sensor switches the monitor to power-saving mode when you move away, helping to save battery and prevent burn-in. The included case allows for both horizontal and vertical orientation, providing versatility. Connectivity options include a headphone jack, two USB-C/DisplayPort ports, an additional USB-C port for power, and a mini-HDMI port.

For under $300, you get a gaming monitor with blacks nearly as deep as OLED, using an IPS panel. It boasts a peak HDR brightness of around 1,000 nits for full-screen whites and over 1,000 nits for highlights, ideal for HDR. It also uses quantum dots for enhanced color coverage, making it perfect for creators.

The key to its performance is a mini-LED backlight with 1,152 local dimming zones, twice as many as its nearest competitor. This allows it to rival gaming monitors costing much more. While some blooming is present, it's reduced compared to similar-priced monitors, and the blacks are deep while highlights and colors pop. The experience is remarkably close to OLED without the risks.

To maintain its low price, it lacks extra features like a built-in USB hub or KVM and has limited gaming options in its OSD. If you need precise color accuracy, calibration with a colorimeter is recommended. Despite these minor limitations, this monitor offers exceptional value.

When choosing the perfect OLED monitor, consider the size that suits your needs. OLED monitors range from compact 24-inch models to expansive 55-inch displays. Assess your desk space and intended use. Graphic designers and video editors may prefer larger, high-resolution screens like 4K for detailed work, while gamers might prioritize refresh rates and response times over size.
