FromSoftware has recently unveiled additional details about its upcoming exclusive for the Nintendo Switch 2, titled The Duskbloods. This collaboration with Nintendo has notably influenced not only the game's style but also the character design of the hub area's keeper, introducing a unique, adorable twist.

During the Switch 2 Direct, the trailer ended with a captivating shot of a winged rat character adorned with glowing glyphs, sparking curiosity among fans. This character, as it turns out, serves as the new hub companion for The Duskbloods.

In an interview with Nintendo, director Hidetaka Miyazaki explained, "That character shares a similar role with the fire keepers from the Dark Souls series. They remain in the hub area, providing the player with advice and guidance." He further elaborated on the design choice, saying, "I suppose you could say we tried doing something a little Nintendo-esque in the spirit of the partnership."

When asked about the character's cute appearance, Miyazaki humorously noted, "We tried something cute for a change. Although I will say this character is actually an elderly gentleman (laughter)."

FromSoftware's shrine keepers have traditionally been pivotal in guiding players through their challenging worlds. Iconic figures such as Melina, the Maiden in Black, and the Doll have been constant presences, offering not only guidance but also power to progress. In The Duskbloods, a PvPvE game, the role of the winged rat hub companion will be crucial, though the specifics of its guidance remain a mystery.

Miyazaki hinted at the innovative approach FromSoft is taking with The Duskbloods, stating that the team is introducing "a lot of new and interesting ideas." Players can look forward to an unexpected experience when the game launches on the Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026.
