Star Wars Episode 1: Jedi Power Battles Reveals Another New Character

Aspyr's upcoming release of Star Wars Episode 1: Jedi Power Battles for modern consoles features a surprising addition to the roster: the playable character, Jar Jar Binks. This announcement, accompanied by a new gameplay trailer showcasing Binks wielding a staff, has generated considerable buzz.

The 2000 original featured iconic characters and locations from Episode I: The Phantom Menace. This remastered version aims to recapture that nostalgia while adding significant new content. Beyond updated features like customizable lightsaber colors and cheat code support, a wave of new playable characters is being introduced, with Jar Jar Binks being the latest revealed.

The trailer depicts Binks engaging enemies with his staff and delivering his characteristically chaotic dialogue. While some fans may have fantasized about a Darth Jar Jar-esque red lightsaber wielding Binks, this iteration sticks to his more traditional, albeit comical, fighting style. Jar Jar Binks will be available from launch on January 23rd; pre-orders are currently open.

Newly Revealed Playable Characters:

Aspyr has unveiled a diverse range of new characters beyond Jar Jar Binks, totaling ten so far, with more promised. This expansion includes:

  • Jar Jar Binks
  • Rodian
  • Flame Droid
  • Gungan Guard
  • Destroyer Droid
  • Ishi Tib
  • Rifle Droid
  • Staff Tusken Raider
  • Weequay
  • Mercenary

This eclectic mix incorporates familiar faces like the Staff Tusken Raider and Rodian, alongside various droid types. The inclusion of both Jar Jar Binks and the Gungan Guard highlights the game's commitment to expanding its Gungan representation.

With the release date rapidly approaching, fans eagerly anticipate experiencing these new additions to Jedi Power Battles. Aspyr's past successes with other franchise re-releases, such as Star Wars: Bounty Hunter, offer hope for a polished and faithful update that satisfies fans' nostalgic expectations.
