With Nintendo ending regular updates for Splatoon 3, anticipation for a Splatoon 4 release is reaching fever pitch.
Nintendo Halts Splatoon 3 Updates
Splatoon 4 on the Horizon?
Nintendo has announced the end of regular content updates for Splatoon 3. However, the game isn't entirely abandoned. Holiday events like Splatoween and Frosty Fest will continue, along with ongoing monthly challenges, weapon adjustments, and balance patches as needed.
The official Twitter (X) announcement stated: "After 2 INK-credible years of Splatoon 3, regular updates will come to a close. Don't worry! Splatoween, Frosty Fest, Spring Fest, and Summer Nights will continue with some returning themes! Updates for weapon adjustments will be released as needed. Big Run, Eggstra Work, and Monthly Challenges will continue for the time being."
This news follows the conclusion of *Splatoon 3*'s Grand Festival on September 16th, commemorated by a video showcasing past Splatfests and a farewell from Deep Cut. Nintendo's statement, "Thanks for holding down the Splatlands with us, it's been a blast!" has only fueled speculation.Launched two years ago on September 9th, Splatoon 3's development slowdown has reignited rumors of a sequel. Fans have pointed to potential easter eggs within the Grand Festival event, suggesting a new city setting for a potential Splatoon 4.
One fan commented on a post showing in-game screenshots of a city: "Doesn't look like Inkopolis. Perhaps the setting of Splatoon 4?" Others remain skeptical, with one suggesting the location is simply a variation of Splatsville from Splatoon 3.
While no official announcement exists, rumors of Splatoon 4 development for the Switch have circulated for months. The Grand Festival, being the final major Splatfest, further strengthens fan belief in an imminent sequel.
Past Splatoon Final Fests have influenced subsequent sequels, leading to speculation that Splatoon 3's "Past, Present, or Future" theme could foreshadow Splatoon 4's narrative. Until Nintendo makes an official announcement, however, fans will have to remain patient.
