Ubisoft Plans Land Combat for Skull & Bones Year 2

by Blake Nov 15,2025

PlayUbisoft has charted ambitious plans to elevate Skull and Bones Year 2 with substantial updates, including the introduction of new game modes, additional ships, mythical sea monsters, and a highly anticipated feature from fans: land-based combat.

During yesterday's Year 2 showcase, Ubisoft unveiled its roadmap for the coming year. While numerous updates are planned, Season 3: Guts and Glory stands out by finally delivering the land combat mechanics players have requested since the game's February 2023 launch.

PlayScheduled for release this fall, Season 3 will enable players to engage in sword fights and firearms combat on solid ground. This new gameplay element ties into the Rogue Warlord campaign, where pirates will explore beaches and caves to recruit specialized Officers glimpsed in Ubisoft's teaser trailer.

The Year 2 roadmap extends beyond land combat with several major seasonal updates:

  • Season 1: Ascent into Chaos (Live Now) - Introduces item enhancement tiers, challenging world difficulty levels, the Schooner medium-class ship, and Death Tides team PvP mode
  • Season 2: Oaths of War (Summer 2025) - Adds Megaforts defensive structures and massive Frigate warships
  • Season 4: Eye of the Beast (Winter 2025) - Features the legendary Kraken boss fight, Hunter's Guild faction, and Corvette battleship

Ubisoft will host a free play weekend from April 17-21, offering full access to core gameplay alongside discounted purchase options (specific pricing undisclosed).

Originally released February 16, 2024 for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S (scoring 7/10 in IGN's review), Skull and Bones achieved notable early engagement despite Ubisoft withholding sales figures. Curiously, its launch coincided with a 200% player surge in Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag.
