EA and Maxis are celebrating the 25th anniversary of the iconic The Sims franchise with an exciting re-release that fans have been eagerly waiting for. As of today, both The Sims 1 and The Sims 2 are once again available on PC through the newly launched The Sims: Legacy Collection and The Sims 2: Legacy Collection. These collections can be purchased separately or bundled together in The Sims 25th Birthday Bundle for $40, offering a comprehensive throwback experience.
Each Legacy Collection comes packed with all expansions and nearly all stuff packs. Notably, The Sims 2: Legacy Collection is missing the IKEA Home Stuff pack from 2008, but aside from that, you'll find everything you need to dive back into these classic games. Both collections also feature bonus content: The Sims 1 includes the Throwback Fit Kit, and The Sims 2 comes with the Grunge Revival Kit, adding fresh elements to your nostalgic journey.
This re-release marks the first time in over a decade that both games have been readily accessible. The Sims 1 was previously only available on disc, making it challenging to play on modern Windows machines without significant effort. The Sims 2 saw a more recent release in 2014 via the Ultimate Collection on EA's Origin store, but that version was eventually discontinued. Now, with these new collections, all four The Sims games are easily purchasable and playable through digital storefronts, offering a seamless way to experience the series' history.
When we first reviewed them, The Sims 1 received a 9.5/10 and The Sims 2 a 8.5/10. Despite the many advancements in the series since their initial release, these original games hold a special place in the hearts of fans for their unique charm, simplicity, challenge, and enduring legacy.
You can now grab The Sims: Legacy Collection and The Sims 2: Legacy Collection on Steam, the Epic Games Store, and through the EA app, ensuring that everyone can relive the magic of these beloved classics.
