Rumor: Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake Canceled

The highly anticipated Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake, first teased in September 2021, remains shrouded in uncertainty. Recent claims suggest the project may have been indefinitely halted, dashing the hopes of many fans. This news comes from Alex Smith, former head of Bend Studio and a veteran of the Syphon Filter series.

Smith, via his X account, alleges that development on the SW: KotOR Remake has ceased completely, contradicting Saber Interactive's 2024 statement that development was ongoing. He further claims that some team members have been reassigned, while others have unfortunately been laid off. Confirmation of this would undoubtedly devastate fans eagerly awaiting this iconic RPG's remake.

It's important to note Smith's track record. While he has accurately predicted game announcements in the past—for example, a new Housemarque title—his predictions regarding the release dates of Death Stranding 2 and Ghost of Tsushima proved inaccurate. Therefore, his latest statement should be approached with cautious optimism.

As of yet, Saber Interactive and Aspyr have not publicly addressed these claims, leaving the future of the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake uncertain and fans anxiously awaiting official confirmation.
