In NieR: Automata, short swords boast rapid attack speeds and narrow hitboxes, making them versatile weapons for diverse enemy encounters. While weapon upgrades enhance their longevity, powerful, upgradable finds like the Type-40 sword significantly boost character strength. This guide details how to acquire this often-missed weapon.
Obtaining the Type-40 Sword
The Type-40 sword is the reward for completing the side quest, "Find a Present," the culmination of a questline involving Operator 6O. Unlocking this requires completing two prior side quests. Here's the complete process, including chapter selection points:
- After defeating Adam and Eve in Chapter 5, Operator 6O will contact you. Immediately complete the resulting "Investigating Communications" quest; it's easily missed.
- Proceed through Chapter 6 (Forest Castle events) and into Chapter 7.
- After speaking with Pascal about A2, explore the city ruins until Operator 6O contacts you again, directing you to an access point for the "Terminal Repairs" quest.
- While returning to the Resistance Camp during Chapter 7, you'll receive a final message from Operator 6O regarding flowers, initiating the "Find a Present" quest.
- Complete "Find a Present" to receive the Type-40 Sword.
Type-40 Sword Stats & Upgrades
At level 1, the Type-40 Sword delivers a 5-hit light attack combo and a 3-hit heavy attack combo. Upgrading to level 4 increases the light attack combo to 7 hits and enhances its effectiveness against stunned foes. Titanium Alloy is required for these upgrades.
