Marvel Rivals Developer Says There's Currently No Plan for a PvE Mode

by Blake Mar 16,2025

Marvel Rivals, while still relatively new, is already sparking player discussions about potential future additions. Recent rumors of a PvE boss fight fueled speculation about an upcoming PvE mode. However, NetEase recently clarified that a dedicated PvE mode isn't currently in their plans.

Speaking with Marvel Rivals producer Weicong Wu at the DICE Summit in Las Vegas, we inquired about PvE mode possibilities. Wu responded: "For now we don't have any kind of a PvE plan, but our development team is continuously experimenting with new gameplay modes. So if we found that a new specific game mode is entertaining enough, fun enough, we would of course bring it to our audience."

Following this, Marvel Games executive producer Danny Koo joined the conversation, asking about my preference for a PvE mode. After expressing my interest, Wu elaborated: "Yeah, we believe there are some of our audience that would like the PvE mode. But also, you can see that if we come up with a hardcore PvE experience, that will be totally a different distinctive experience from what we have right now. So our development team has been continuously experimenting with different approaches to achieve that goal, maybe a lighter mode, in a lighter sense of that, and to see what would work best for our game."

Currently, concrete plans for a full PvE mode remain unannounced. However, Wu hinted at NetEase exploring "lighter" gameplay mode concepts, potentially temporary events or similar additions. For now, further details are scarce.

Marvel Rivals continues to receive updates approximately every six weeks, introducing new characters. The Human Torch and The Thing are slated to join the roster on February 21st. Separate conversations with Wu and Koo also covered potential Nintendo Switch 2 release and addressed speculation regarding intentionally misleading dataminers with fake hero "leaks" in the game's code.
