For deeper insights into the set's development, we spoke with its lead designer. Ann Healy, a 39-year-old Senior Model Designer with six years at LEGO, shares her creative journey in bringing LEGO The Simpsons: Krusty Burger to life – the franchise's first new set in nearly ten years.
What other LEGO projects have you designed during your tenure?
Healy: I spent three years developing the LEGO Friends line before transitioning to dream projects like Disney's Sanderson Sisters' Cottage from Hocus Pocus, which took years of meticulous craftsmanship. Currently on the LEGO Icons team, I've recently designed the McLaren MP4/4 & Ayrton Senna racer and Botanical Collection Poinsettia sets.

Why revive The Simpsons LEGO line after a decade?
Healy: Market research confirmed enduring global affection for The Simpsons among LEGO fans. The Krusty Burger set naturally extends our Simpsons collection while introducing all-new minifigures. Ironically, I'd purchased the original Simpsons House and Kwik-E-Mart sets before joining LEGO. Finding an early Krusty Burger prototype in our offices during my first week felt prophetic – five years later, we brought it to market!
Walk us through your design process. How many complete rebuilds were required?
Healy: Beginning with digital prototypes, I cycled through numerous physical iterations while collaborating with our Creative Lead, IP partners, and engineering teams. From structural tests to play experience evaluations, I estimate rebuilding the model at least 20 times before finalizing the production version.

How did you conceptualize Krusty Burger's layout without definitive on-screen references?
Healy: Disney provided valuable reference materials, supplemented by exhaustive episode research. We primarily drew inspiration from Season 20's "Coming to Homerica" (featuring the Mother Nature Burger) and Season 14's "I'm Spelling as Fast as I Can" (showcasing the Ribwich). Other notable episodes influencing our design include:
- Season 6's "Homie the Clown": Homer's burger joint performances
- Season 12's "Day of the Jackanapes": Bart and Sideshow Bob's confrontation
- Season 10's "Lard of the Dance": Homer's grease scheme
- Season 7's "Bart the Fink": IRS takeover storyline
- Season 19's premiere: Homer's ball pit hideout
- Season 15's "Diatribe": Drive-thru signage
- Season 21's "Treehouse of Horror": Apocalyptic burger joint
What's your favorite hidden detail?
Healy: The kitchen display showing an order for 700 burgers – a clever nod to Season 5's "Boy-Scoutz 'n the Hood," where Krusty foolishly opens an offshore burger rig.

What proved most technically challenging?
Healy: Perfecting Krusty's iconic sign demanded particular attention to facial proportions. Our IP partners provided hand-drawn references, while a colleague with illustration expertise helped translate Krusty's features into bricks. Structural innovation was required too – we implemented a prototype axle sleeve to stabilize the heavy signage.
Can fans expect more Simpsons LEGO sets?
Healy: While I can't confirm future releases, positive reception to this set could certainly influence future collaborations!
