Six years. That's how long fans have waited for Hollow Knight: Silksong, the highly anticipated sequel to the 2017 Metroidvania masterpiece. Through numerous game showcases and even a seemingly confirmed pre-June 2023 release (courtesy of Microsoft), Silksong has remained elusive. The Game Awards came and went without a peep, leaving fans yearning for news. Could the recently announced Nintendo Switch 2 Direct finally be the moment?
The Hollow Knight subreddit believes so, and it all started with a cake. Specifically, co-director William Pellen's January 15th Twitter/X profile picture change to a chocolate cake, accompanied by the cryptic tweet: "something big is coming. keep your eyes closed tomorrow."

With rumors swirling about a January 16th Nintendo Switch 2 reveal (which indeed happened), speculation ignited. Did Pellen subtly hint at the reveal? If so, why?
The mystery deepened. Fans reverse-image-searched the cake, tracing it back to a Brooklyn Blackout Cake recipe on Bon Appétit, published April 2, 2024. The significance? Nintendo confirmed a Nintendo Direct: Nintendo Switch 2 for Wednesday, April 2, 2025. This led to a theory: Pellen orchestrated an alternate reality game (ARG) using the cake and tweet.
The detective work didn't stop there. Pellen's new X/Twitter handle, @everydruidwaswr (a 15-character string, the same length as Twitter's handle limit, potentially hinting at a Silksong NPC, the Druid of the Moss Temple), and his new name, "little bomey" (possibly referencing a Southern Australian wine, given Team Cherry's location), further fueled the speculation.
It's crucial to remember that Hollow Knight: Silksong's initial announcement listed Windows, Mac, Linux, and Nintendo Switch as launch platforms. But that was six years ago. Has Nintendo secured Silksong as a Switch 2 launch title? A timed exclusive? Or is this all a case of overly enthusiastic fans reading too much into things?
Only time will tell. We have a few months until April 2nd to find out. Until then, let's keep an eye on all the announcements surrounding the Nintendo Switch 2 reveal.
