Harry Potter: Magic Awakened Disappears, Leaving Wizarding World Behind

NetEase's collectible card game, Harry Potter: Magic Awakened, is shutting down in the Americas, Europe, and Oceania on October 29th, 2024. While the game continues in Asia and select MENA regions, its closure in these regions marks the end of a journey that began with much promise.

Initially released in China in September 2021 and globally on June 27th, 2023, the game's unique blend of Clash Royale-style gameplay and the Harry Potter universe initially captivated players. The card-battling mechanics and wizard duels successfully evoked the Hogwarts atmosphere.

However, the game's popularity faltered. Reddit discussions highlight player frustration with a shift towards pay-to-win mechanics, particularly after a rewards system overhaul that penalized skilled, free-to-play players. Slower progression and numerous nerfs contributed to the decline.

The game has already been removed from app stores in the affected regions. Those in other regions still have the opportunity to experience the game's dorm life, classes, secrets, and student duels.
