GTA 6 Mapping Project Surges with Trailer 2: 'Information Overload'

by Olivia May 17,2025

The GTA 6 mapping project is experiencing a surge in activity following the release of Trailer 2. According to Garza, a key member of the project who manages the GTA 6 Mapping Discord server, "it really changes everything for us for the rest of the year." With nearly 400 members, the community is diving deep into the wealth of new information provided by the trailer.

Garza explained to IGN, "It’s an information overload - it really changes everything for us for the rest of the year. We have so much new content to work on and we’re really just getting started." The project, which began after the significant leaks in September 2022, aims to create the most accurate map of GTA 6. Prior to Trailer 2, the mapping efforts relied on those leaks and the content from December 2023’s Trailer 1.

The latest map version, v0.049, released by project lead DuPz0r at the end of March, has quickly become outdated. The flood of new details from Trailer 2 is propelling the project towards a more accurate and detailed map.

Alongside confirming plot details and characters, Trailer 2 introduced 70 new screenshots and unveiled new explorable areas within the state of Leonida, GTA 6’s version of Florida. Confirmed locations include Vice City (a nod to Miami), the tropical Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia, and the notable Mount Kalaga near the state’s northern border.

The volunteers are meticulously analyzing the trailer to pinpoint exact locations and match fictional spaces to real-life counterparts, aiming to refine GTA 6’s map further. An updated map from DuPz0r is eagerly awaited, expected to offer fans a comprehensive preview of what to expect when GTA 6 launches in May 2026.

Should Rockstar release additional assets or gameplay footage before the game's release, the mapping team will continue their work. Only upon the game's launch will they be able to compare their fan-made map with the actual game to gauge their accuracy.

However, the project faces potential legal challenges from Rockstar's parent company, Take-Two. A similar project faced a takedown in March, causing the modder to halt all work. When asked last year about concerns regarding action from Take-Two, Garza expressed "some mild concern" but noted the project's long-standing operation without disruption. He mentioned that the project avoids directly showcasing leaked material, which might mitigate risks, and suggested that the project's role in building anticipation for the game could be beneficial to Rockstar. Garza concluded, "If I were ever in the situation of receiving a cease and desist though, then I would respectfully cease and desist."

As the mapping project continues, stay tuned for more on GTA 6, including all the details we’ve discovered so far and all the GTA 6 fan theories emerging from Trailer 2 itself.
