Pokémon Card Market Update: Top Gainers and Decliners for May 9

by Gabriel Aug 10,2025

The Pokémon single card market saw another week of volatility as trainers eagerly await the Destined Rivals release. Fortunately, Black Bolt and White Flare Pokémon Center preorders dodged a bot-driven frenzy this time.

Greninja ex 214/167 took the hardest hit, plummeting nearly 50% since the start of 2025. Meanwhile, Obsidian Flames and 151 expansions are seeing welcome price reductions. On the flip side, Dragonite V from Evolving Skies has surged, nearly doubling in value since January, with its stunning artwork long considered underappreciated.

Charizard V Alt Art, showcasing a dynamic battle with Venusaur, is steadily climbing in value. Rayquaza VMAX Alt Art is soaring even higher, gaining $100 since the year began. Here’s a deep dive into the week’s biggest Pokémon TCG winners and losers.

While Sword and Shield era Pokémon cards are finally gaining traction, Scarlet and Violet series cards are stabilizing at more realistic prices.

Alakazam ex SIR from 151, a visually striking card, has dropped 34% since early March. There’s no excuse not to add this iconic card to your collection this year.

Bulbasaur IR holds a special place for fans of Pokémon Blue, like myself. With a 52% price drop since mid-March, this gorgeous card is a must-have at its current value.

Obsidian Flames’ Ninetales IR remains a standout, and with a 40% price cut since February, it’s now an affordable $18.17—perfect for collectors.

Obsidian Flames’ Charizard ex SIR, with its stunning stained-glass Tera form, remains a showstopper. It’s down just $5 since March, but savings are savings.

The biggest faller this month is Greninja ex SIR, once poised to be the priciest Scarlet and Violet card. Prismatic Evolutions shifted the hype, but at $275, it’s still a solid card—though a far cry from its $411.62 peak in February.

Pokémon Card Climbers

This week’s climbers include Rayquaza VMAX Alt Art, a crown jewel of the Sword and Shield era. Already valued at over $500, it’s now at $649.99 and could hit $1,000 in a few years—grab one if you can.

Charizard V Alt Art, featuring an epic Venusaur showdown, captures Kanto nostalgia perfectly. Its dynamic artwork feels alive, and with a $40 increase since January, it’s on track to break $200 by year’s end.
