War Thunder Mobile's open beta for air combat has officially launched, bringing intense aerial battles courtesy of Gaijin Entertainment. This update introduces over 100 aircraft from three nations, expanding significantly on the game's previous limited air capabilities.
Previously, aircraft played a supporting role in naval and ground combat. This open beta, however, introduces a full-fledged aerial tech tree and a dedicated air combat mode.
War Thunder Mobile's Aircraft Open Beta: A Deep Dive
Currently, the beta features aircraft from the USA, Germany, and the USSR, including iconic planes like the P-51 Mustang, Messerschmitt Bf 109, and La-5. More nations are planned for future updates.
Players can focus on a single nation's tech tree or diversify their progress across multiple nations. High-tier aircraft can be acquired via blueprints earned through in-game events, with the first event slated for early October.
The open beta unlocks a new Aviation campaign, providing access to an aircraft hangar for research, upgrades, and crew management. Squadrons of up to four aircraft can be formed, allowing for customization of both aircraft and armaments. See the action in the trailer below:

Gameplay Mechanics and the Aircraft Hangar
The aircraft hangar serves as the central hub between battles. Players can manage vehicles, select camouflage, explore the tech tree, and invite friends to squads. Three options are available for each aircraft slot: swapping vehicles, modifying armaments, or upgrading crews. Squadron composition is flexible, allowing for diverse aircraft regardless of class, nation, or rank.
With its extensive features, War Thunder Mobile's aircraft open beta offers a rich and engaging aerial combat experience. Download the game from the Google Play Store to participate. For fans of turn-based strategy, check out our review of Athena Crisis, a new strategy game.
