Despite the cancellation of the planned live-action Driver TV series, Ubisoft confirms ongoing development of other Driver franchise projects. Let's delve into Ubisoft's recent statement.
Ubisoft Remains Active in Developing Future Driver Projects
Ubisoft has officially announced to Game File the cancellation of its live-action Driver TV series adaptation. Initially slated for exclusive streaming on Binge.com in 2021, the project was part of Ubisoft's broader strategy to expand its game franchises into new media. As stated by Ubisoft Film & Television head Danielle Kreinik, the goal was "to bring our games to life in new and exciting ways and create content set in the world, culture, and community of gaming."
The partnership's termination stems from the closure of Hotrod Tanner LLC, a Ubisoft subsidiary involved in film projects (and named after the Driver protagonist), which occurred last January. A Ubisoft spokesperson confirmed to Game File, "We are no longer moving forward with our partnership with Binge for a Driver series."
However, Ubisoft assures fans that the Driver franchise isn't abandoned. They are "actively working on other exciting projects related to the franchise" and promise future announcements. While specifics remain undisclosed, keep an eye out for upcoming Driver news!
