Potential Dorothy Candidates for Wicked Film Revealed

by Nicholas Jan 09,2026

While the yellow brick road leads to a November reveal of Dorothy’s casting in the second film of the Wicked saga, Wicked: For Good, one thing is certain: it won’t be Taylor Swift.

The debut trailer for For Good gave a brief glimpse of Dorothy from behind, but no clear visuals confirm the actress in the coveted role. Nevertheless, social media buzzed with rumors of Swift’s involvement, with parody accounts even sharing AI-generated images of the singer in Dorothy’s outfit, falsely presenting them as stills from the movie.

Given Swift's demanding Eras Tour schedule throughout the filming of both Wicked installments, her appearance in the sequel appears unlikely. Instead, Alisha Weir, star of the film Abigail, has long been the frontrunner.

The 15-year-old, known for her outstanding performance in a recent vampire movie, also appeared in Matilda the Musical and Wicked Little Letters. Her rising talent positions her as a natural fit for Dorothy. Fueling speculation, Weir was photographed on the Wicked premiere’s green carpet last November wearing silver shoes—the original color of the iconic ruby slippers. Since then, she has remained the fan favorite for the part.

Weir has diplomatically addressed the rumors in interviews without outright denying the possibility. Director Jon M. Chu previously hinted that Dorothy will have a more substantial role in For Good compared to her part in the stage musical.

“I won’t confirm whether she appears as a specific character in the second movie,” he told Huffington Post UK in November 2024. “Part of me wants everyone to imagine Dorothy as they see her. Still, there are interactions and crossovers, so I’ll leave that for Part Two.”

Abigail star Alisha Weir is the favorite to play Dorothy.

Here's the official synopsis:

Helmed once again by award-winning director Jon M. Chu and featuring the stellar returning cast—led by Oscar-nominated superstars Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande—the final chapter of Oz’s untold witch saga begins with Elphaba and Glinda estranged and facing the aftermath of their choices.
Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo), now vilified as the Wicked Witch of the West, lives in exile within the forests of Oz. She continues her fight to free the silenced Animals and works desperately to reveal the truth about The Wizard (Jeff Goldblum).
Meanwhile, Glinda has become the radiant symbol of Goodness across Oz. Residing in the Emerald City palace, she basks in fame and public admiration. Under the direction of Madame Morrible (Oscar winner Michelle Yeoh), Glinda is deployed to reassure the citizens that all is well under The Wizard’s rule.
As Glinda's celebrity grows and she prepares to marry Prince Fiyero (Olivier Award winner and Emmy and SAG nominee Jonathan Bailey) in a magnificent Ozian wedding, she remains haunted by her broken friendship with Elphaba. Her attempts to reconcile Elphaba and The Wizard backfire, driving the former friends further apart. The fallout transforms Boq (Tony nominee Ethan Slater) and Fiyero forever, and endangers Elphaba’s sister, Nessarose (Marissa Bode), when a girl from Kansas crashes into their world.
As an angry mob rises against the Wicked Witch, Glinda and Elphaba must unite one last time. With their extraordinary friendship now pivotal to their destinies, they must see each other with honesty and empathy if they hope to change themselves—and all of Oz—for good.

Wicked: For Good arrives in theaters on November 21, 2025.
