Squid Game: Unleashed is gearing up for a major content drop to coincide with the release of season two of the hit Netflix show. Get ready for new characters, a fresh map, and exciting challenges! Plus, exclusive rewards await those who tune in to the new episodes.
Netflix's surprising move to offer Squid Game: Unleashed free to all players, subscribers and non-subscribers alike, before the holidays, has proven to be a smart strategy. Now, with the addition of season two-themed content and rewards for watching, they're cleverly incentivizing viewership and attracting new players.
What's in store for existing players? Starting January 3rd, a new map inspired by the Mingle mini-game from Squid Game season two will debut. Three new playable avatars will also join the roster throughout January: Geum-Ja, Yong-Sik, and Thanos (the rapper, not the Marvel character).
Geum-Ja and Thanos will each have special in-game events on January 3rd and 9th respectively, offering unique unlock challenges. And for those watching the show, additional rewards are up for grabs! Watching episodes of Squid Game season two will earn you in-game Cash and Wild Tokens. Watching up to seven episodes unlocks the Binni Binge-Watcher outfit!
Here's the January content roadmap for Squid Game: Unleashed:
- January 3rd: The Mingle map launches alongside Geum-Ja. Her Dalgona Mash Up Collection Event runs until the 9th, challenging players to complete Mingle-inspired mini-games and collect Dalgona tins.
- January 9th: Thanos enters the game with his own recruitment event, the Thanos’ Red Light Challenge. Players must eliminate opponents using knives to unlock him. This event runs until the 14th.
- January 16th: Yong-Sik arrives as the final character addition in this update.
Squid Game: Unleashed is shaping up to be a significant milestone for Netflix's gaming ambitions. The free-to-play model was a bold move, but rewarding subscribers while simultaneously driving viewership is a particularly shrewd approach to synergistically support the show.
