Samsung's latest SSD, the Samsung 990 Evo Plus 2TB PCIe 4.0 M.2 NVMe solid state drive, is currently on sale for an unbeatable price of $129.99. This is even lower than the Black Friday deals we saw, and it's $40 less than the Samsung 990 Pro. For most gamers, the performance difference between these two models is negligible, making the 990 Evo Plus an excellent choice for both your gaming PC and PlayStation 5.

The Samsung 990 Evo Plus is a standout drive for both gaming PCs and the PlayStation 5. It surpasses Sony's minimum speed requirements for the PS5, with impressive sequential read speeds of up to 7,250MB/s and write speeds of up to 6,300MB/s. While it's not as fast as the 990 Pro, it's significantly faster than the non-Pro version of the 990 Evo. The key difference between the 990 Evo Plus and the pricier 990 Pro is that the Evo Plus is a DRAM-less drive. However, this doesn't impact PS5 performance, and for gaming PCs, it uses HMB (host memory buffer) to compensate, drawing a minimal amount of RAM from your system memory. Gamers won't notice any performance difference between the two.
The Samsung 990 Evo Plus does not come with a preinstalled heatsink, but its new single-sided design is power-efficient and generates less heat than older SSDs. This means it should work perfectly in a PS5 without thermal throttling, though adding a heatsink for peace of mind is an option that costs an extra $7.
