Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Cons May Function as Computer Mice

Recent circumstantial evidence suggests the Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Cons could offer an unexpected feature: mouse functionality. While the widespread adoption of this mode by game developers remains uncertain, it aligns with Nintendo's history of innovative controller experimentation.

The intriguing discovery comes from Famiboards user LiC, known for uncovering Vietnamese customs data linked to Nintendo's parts suppliers. This data source has fueled numerous Switch 2 rumors since mid-2024.

LiC's latest revelation involves shipping manifests detailing polyethylene (PE) adhesive tape, described as "mouse soles" and intended for "game console handles." The "mouse soles," typically found on the bottom of computer mice, strongly hint at potential mouse-like functionality for the Joy-Cons.

Two "mouse sole" model numbers, LG7 and SML7, were referenced. These numbers haven't been found in public databases, suggesting they represent unreleased products. The listed size of 90 x 90mm suggests the tape could cover the entire back of the Joy-Cons, potentially requiring trimming during assembly.

Not a First for Handheld Consoles

While unconventional, a mouse-like controller mode isn't unprecedented. The Lenovo Legion GO, released in 2023, already features this capability with its right controller, transforming into a mouse when rotated sideways. Lenovo even includes a plastic housing to improve its glide across surfaces.

The Legion GO also boasts magnetic controller rails, a feature rumored for the Switch 2. This similarity further strengthens the speculation regarding the Switch 2's potential design and features.
