Surprise! A brand-new Nintendo Direct spotlighting Kirby Air Riders drops tomorrow, Tuesday, August 19, at 6 AM Pacific, 9 AM Eastern, or 2 PM UK time.
Once again, Nintendo unveiled the showcase first through its Nintendo Today app, promising 45 minutes of exclusive details on the upcoming Switch 2 title.
Kirby Air Riders marks the first new project in years from Masahiro Sakurai, the acclaimed director behind Nintendo’s blockbuster Super Smash Bros. series. Tomorrow’s in-depth look at the game is also strategically timed, hinting it may finally be playable at this week’s Gamescom event in Cologne.
To date, Nintendo has kept specifics about Kirby Air Riders tightly under wraps, though it has confirmed the pink puffball racer is set to launch on Switch 2 later this year. Tomorrow’s Direct is likely to reveal a more concrete release window.
Announced earlier this year alongside further details of the Switch 2, Kirby Air Riders serves as a sequel to the 2003 cult classic Kirby Air Ride for GameCube. Development on the game ramped up in 2023, following the conclusion of Sakurai’s extensive work on Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s downloadable content.
There’s no indication tomorrow’s broadcast will feature any other Switch 2 titles beyond Kirby Air Riders (sorry, Metroid fans). Still, fresh insights into what’s next from Sakurai and his skilled team should be more than enough.
