by Gabriella Jan 14,2026

The acclaimed series Shōgun, recipient of 18 Emmy Awards and 4 Golden Globes, is officially returning for a second season, with plans actively moving forward. Cosmo Jarvis, who portrays the English pilot John Blackthorne, has confirmed his return for Season 2 and will also join the production as a co-executive producer, according to an official announcement from FX.

Additionally, star Hiroyuki Sanada — who committed to Season 2 following the show's renewal last May, despite its initial status as a limited series — has been elevated to an executive producer after serving as a producer on the first season. Production on Season 2 is scheduled to commence in January 2026, with filming returning to Vancouver, the original shooting location.

FX describes the second season as "a completely original new chapter" following the first season, which was an adaptation of James Clavell's novel. The network outlined the connection between the two seasons:

“In Season One, Lord Yoshii Toranaga (Sanada) fought for his survival against a united Council of Regents. The discovery of a marooned European ship and its English pilot, John Blackthorne (Jarvis), provided Toranaga with crucial strategic intelligence, helping him turn the tide and win a pivotal civil war.

"Shōgun Part Two picks up a decade later, continuing the historically-inspired saga of these two men from vastly different worlds, whose destinies remain deeply intertwined.”

With any luck, new episodes of this outstanding series will arrive by late 2026 — for now, fans can eagerly await further updates.
