Anointing Guide for Path of Exile 2 (PoE 2)

by Dylan Mar 29,2025

In the thrilling world of *Path of Exile 2*, enhancing your character's power is key to conquering the game's challenges. Anointing is one of the advanced techniques you can use to boost your gear, but it's not available right from the start. Here's a comprehensive guide on how to anoint in *Path of Exile 2*.

How To Get Distilled Emotions in Path of Exile 2

Anointing becomes accessible later in the game, as it requires Distilled Emotions, which you can only obtain from Delirium Maps. If you're familiar with the original *Path of Exile*, you'll recognize Distilled Emotions as similar to Blight Oils. There are ten types of Distilled Emotions: Despair, Disgust, Envy, Fear, Greed, Guilt, Ire, Isolation, Paranoia, and Suffering.

The primary method to acquire Distilled Emotions is by completing Delirium Maps, which reward you with a random selection of these emotions. Alternatively, you can obtain them through currency exchange or the trade market, offering flexibility in how you gather these crucial items.

To upgrade your Distilled Emotions, head to the Reforging Bench. By combining three of the same type, you can create an upgraded version of that emotion, giving you more control over your anointing options.

For those seeking a challenge, Simulacrum waves offer a chance to drop Distilled Emotions. However, this method is less efficient than Delirium Maps and requires a robust build to tackle the increased difficulty.

How To Anoint Items in Path of Exile 2

Currently, you can anoint Waystones and amulets, though future updates during Early Access might expand these options. To anoint an amulet, select any Distilled Emotion to access the Instilling window. Place the amulet in the central box and three Distilled Emotions in the bottom boxes. The specific emotions needed for the desired anointing ability are detailed in the Passive Skill Tree. Simply hover over a Notable Passive Skill and press alt on a keyboard or R3 on a controller to see the requirements.

The skills you choose to anoint will vary based on your build, and remember, this effect isn't permanent. You can re-anoint an amulet by repeating the process, allowing you to adapt your skills to your current build as needed.

The same anointing process applies to Waystones, which can make them more challenging but also yield better loot. Note that you cannot anoint corrupted items, whether they are amulets or Waystones.

With this guide, you're now equipped to enhance your amulets through anointing, boosting your current build, or challenging yourself by anointing a Waystone in *Path of Exile 2*.

*Path of Exile 2 is available now on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.*
