World of Warcraft's Feast of Winter Veil: A Lore-Filled Holiday Celebration
World of Warcraft's annual Feast of Winter Veil, a festive event mirroring Christmas, returns with fresh rewards and seasonal items. A new lore video, a collaboration with PlatinumWoW, delves into the holiday's rich history within Azeroth.
This in-game celebration boasts a long and amusing history, from its origins to the repeated kidnappings of Metzen the Reindeer. The video explores the holiday's diverse roots: the dwarven myth of Greatfather Winter, a Titan-forged giant; Tauren traditions emphasizing spiritual reflection and gratitude to the Earthmother; and the modern commercialization by the Goblin-run Smokeywood Pastures.
A Deep Dive into Winter Veil Lore
The video wouldn't be complete without addressing the infamous Metzen the Reindeer, named after former Blizzard executive Chris Metzen. This unfortunate reindeer has endured three separate kidnappings: by pirates and Dark Iron dwarves in Classic WoW, and by the Grinch in the current iteration. The humorous conclusion features Metzen expressing gratitude in Thrall's voice, a fitting tribute given Metzen's voice acting for the Orcish Shaman.
This isn't PlatinumWoW's first collaboration with Blizzard. Previous videos have explored Nerubians, Vrykul, the Scourge, World Trees, Blackrock Depths, and even seasonal events like Season of Discovery and Plunderstorm. Blizzard's recent partnerships with content creators, including Taliesin & Evitel and Hurricane, showcase a commitment to enriching the WoW experience.
