Splitgate 2: A New Era of Portal Combat Arrives in 2025

Splitgate 2 Announcement

1047 Games, the creators of the popular "Halo meets Portal" shooter Splitgate, has announced a sequel launching in 2025. This isn't just an update; it's a complete reimagining built from the ground up.

A Familiar Feeling, a Fresh Experience

Revealed via a cinematic trailer on July 18th, Splitgate 2 promises a decade-long lifespan. While drawing inspiration from classic arena shooters, the developers aimed to create a modern, enduring experience by focusing on a deep and rewarding gameplay loop. They've refined the portal mechanics, aiming for a balance that challenges skilled players while remaining accessible to all.

Splitgate 2 Gameplay Hint

Developed using Unreal Engine 5 and remaining free-to-play, Splitgate 2 introduces a faction system, adding strategic depth without transforming into a hero shooter. Expect familiar elements, but with a completely revamped look and feel. It's coming to PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One in 2025.

Splitgate 2 Platform Announcement

The original Splitgate, known for its unique portal-based gameplay, achieved immense popularity after its 2019 release. Its early access period saw massive player engagement, leading to server upgrades to handle the influx. The decision to cease updates on the original game paved the way for this ambitious sequel, promising "revolutionary" changes.

New Factions, Maps, and More

Splitgate 2 Factions

The trailer showcased the Sol Splitgate League and three distinct factions: Aeros (dash-based mobility), Meridian (tactical time manipulation), and Sabrask (brute force). These factions offer unique playstyles, adding a new layer of strategic depth. While details are scarce, the developers confirmed Splitgate 2 will not adopt the hero shooter model.

Splitgate 2 Gameplay Teaser

Gameplay specifics will be revealed at Gamescom 2024 (August 21-25), but the trailer hints at exciting features, including dual-wielding and dynamic portal effects.

Splitgate 2 Companion App

Splitgate 2 will not feature a single-player campaign. However, a mobile companion app will allow players to explore the game's lore through comics, collect character cards, and even take a quiz to determine their ideal faction.
