EA's VP Vince Zampella provided an update on the status of the Need for Speed franchise. With NFS Unbound released over two years ago and no subsequent announcements, Zampella clarified the reason for the silence: Criterion Games is fully committed to developing the next Battlefield title.
EA's current top priority is the new Battlefield game, a project involving four studios and heavily incorporating player feedback to avoid repeating the mistakes of Battlefield 2042. This player-centric approach also informs future NFS Unbound content.
It's highly probable that EA will refocus on Need for Speed only after the launch and initial post-release support of the new Battlefield game. This delay might be beneficial, allowing time to address past fan disappointment with recent NFS installments and potentially fostering renewed anticipation for a franchise reboot.
In short, any new Need for Speed announcements are unlikely in the foreseeable future.
