Nintendo Responds to CES 2025 Switch 2 Leaks: "Not Official"
Nintendo has issued a rare public statement regarding the recent flurry of Nintendo Switch 2 leaks stemming from CES 2025. A company representative confirmed that the images circulating online are not official Nintendo materials. This is noteworthy, given Nintendo's typically tight-lipped approach to pre-release information. The statement emphasizes Nintendo's absence from CES 2025, thus discrediting any Switch 2 imagery originating from the event.
The Switch 2 has been the subject of numerous leaks since late 2024, coinciding with reports of its entry into mass production. Accessory manufacturer Genki contributed to the latest wave of leaks by showcasing a purported Switch 2 replica at CES. Images of this replica quickly spread across social media.
Nintendo's response, given to the Sankei Shimbun, directly addressed the Genki replica: "It is not official." While this statement confirms the unofficial nature of the leaked images, it notably avoids commenting on the replica's accuracy.
Genki's Replica: Accurate or Not?
Despite Nintendo's lack of comment on the replica's accuracy, its design aligns with existing leaks and rumors. The most significant difference from the original Switch is the addition of a new button, labeled "C," positioned below the right Joy-Con's home button. Its function remains unknown. Genki CEO Eddie Tsai also revealed additional purported details, including magnetically attaching Joy-Cons and their potential use as a mouse, mirroring previous reports.
Nintendo's Timeline and Pricing
Nintendo previously indicated a Switch 2 reveal within its fiscal year 2024 (ending March 31, 2025). With approximately 80 days remaining, anticipation remains high. However, a retail launch isn't expected before the second quarter of 2025. The console is rumored to carry a price tag around $399.
