Nintendo's new $99 "Nintendo Sound Clock: Alarmo" is no ordinary alarm clock. It uses game sounds to rouse you, making you feel like you're waking up *inside* your favorite Nintendo game. Featuring alarm sounds from titles like Mario, Zelda, and Splatoon, with free updates promised, it's designed to make even the most reluctant morning person jump out of bed.The Alarmo's interactivity lies in its "get-out-of-bed" mechanism. The alarm only stops once you leave your bed, providing a small, satisfying "victory fanfare" for completing the daily challenge of rising and shining. You can wave your hand in front of it to quieten the alarm, but prolonged slumber only increases its intensity.
Utilizing a unique radio wave sensor, the Alarmo measures your distance and movement speed, cleverly avoiding the privacy concerns associated with camera-based solutions. As Nintendo developer Tetsuya Akama explains, "It can recognize subtle movements, doesn't require video recording, and works even in dark rooms or with obstacles present."
Early Access and Retail Availability
Nintendo Switch Online members in the US and Canada can get early access via the My Nintendo Store for a limited time. The Nintendo New York store also offers in-person purchases at launch.

Applications Open October 10!
Nintendo has also announced a Switch Online playtest, open for applications from October 10th, 8:00 AM PT / 11:00 AM ET to October 15th, 7:59 AM PT / 10:59 AM ET. Up to 10,000 participants will be chosen, with international selection based on a first-come, first-served basis.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Active Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership (by October 9th, 2024, 3:00 PM PDT)
- 18 years or older (by October 9th, 2024, 3:00 PM PDT)
- Nintendo Account registered in Japan, the US, UK, France, Germany, Italy, or Spain.
The playtest itself runs from October 23rd, 2024, 6:00 PM PT / 9:00 PM ET to November 5th, 2024, 4:59 PM PT / 7:59 PM ET.
