MultiVersus to Conclude Operations After Season 5
Warner Bros. Games has announced the impending closure of MultiVersus, effective May 30, 2025. The upcoming Season 5 will serve as the game's final content update.
Season 5: The Final Chapter
The official announcement, made January 31, 2025, confirmed that Season 5, running from February 4, 2025 to May 30, 2025, will be MultiVersus' last. This season will introduce two highly anticipated characters: Aquaman (DC) and Lola Bunny (Looney Tunes). All Season 5 content will be unlockable through gameplay. Following Season 5's conclusion, the game will be removed from all digital storefronts (PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, Steam, and Epic Games Store). No official reason for the shutdown has been provided.
Offline Play Option
A silver lining for fans: MultiVersus will retain offline functionality. Players can download the latest version (available February 4th, 9 AM PST to May 30th, 9 AM PDT) to enable local play, solo against AI or with up to three friends. The game will automatically create a local save file linked to the player's online account, preserving all earned and purchased content.
Real-money transactions ceased on January 31, 2025. Any remaining Gleamium can be used until Season 5's end.
A Look Back
MultiVersus launched its public beta in July 2022, quickly gaining popularity as a free-to-play platform fighter. Following a relaunch in May 2024 with significant updates (including new characters, rollback netcode, and a new PvE mode), the game faced persistent challenges, including technical issues and reported player-base decline.
At its closure, MultiVersus will boast a roster of 35 playable characters. Player First Games and Warner Bros. expressed gratitude for the community's support. The game remains available for download until May 30, 2025, on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
