Marvel Rivals Developer Is 'Open' to Potential Future Release on Nintendo Switch 2

by Aurora Feb 19,2025

Marvel Rivals, the acclaimed hero shooter, is a smash hit on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. However, NetEase, the developer, has consistently stated it won't launch on the original Nintendo Switch due to performance limitations. But what about the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2?

Recent conversations with Marvel Rivals producer Weicong Wu at the DICE Summit in Las Vegas offer a glimmer of hope for Switch fans. Wu confirmed that NetEase is actively engaging with Nintendo, obtaining development kits, and exploring a Switch 2 release. He explicitly stated that the original Switch's hardware limitations prevented a satisfactory gaming experience, but a Switch 2 port is a definite possibility if performance targets can be met.

PlayThe Nintendo Switch 2, unveiled last month, promises enhanced power and capabilities over its predecessor. Rumored mouse-like controller functionality could potentially improve the shooter experience, making it feel more akin to PC gameplay. The exact implementation remains to be seen.

While a release date for the Switch 2 is still under wraps, a Nintendo Direct is scheduled for April 2nd. Marvel Rivals is currently available on other platforms and has received positive critical reception, earning an 8/10 rating in our review, which praised its strong position within the hero shooter genre. The Human Torch and The Thing are slated to join the roster on February 21st.
