Larian Studios announced on a Steam post that a stress test for Patch 8 is planned for January. This test will be available on PC via Steam, and on Xbox and PlayStation consoles. Mac and GOG users will not have access. Registration for the stress test is open now.
Larian aims to thoroughly test Patch 8 for bugs and stability issues before its official release. The developer stated, "With your help, we’ll be able to keep an eye on any funny business," emphasizing the importance of player participation in identifying problems. A key focus of the stress test will be crossplay functionality. Larian acknowledged the complexity of implementing crossplay in a game as large as Baldur's Gate 3 and is seeking player assistance to ensure a smooth experience. They encourage players to share the registration link with friends or join groups on the Larian Studios Discord server.
While Patch 8 marks the final major update for Baldur's Gate 3, Larian reaffirmed its commitment to ongoing support, particularly for modders. Significant updates are planned, enhancing modding capabilities to allow players to create and share their own unique storylines. Since the September release of official mod tools, an impressive 70 million modules have been downloaded, and over 3,000 mods have been uploaded by the community.
